Phillies To Pay Eyre An Advance Due To Financial Troubles

Todd Zolecki reports the Phillies have agreed to pay Scott Eyre an advance of his $2 million salary because federal regulators have frozen his assets. Eyre was among the many clients with Stanford Financial Group, who is being investigated for fraud by the government.

This comes after Zolecki reported Eyre’s hardship yesterday. The reliever had $3,000 remaining in a checking account and food money, according to Zolecki, though Eyre said in yesterday’s piece he had just $13 in his wallet. Eyre said he spoke up because others are suffering because of the Stanford investigation.
