Kyle Kendrick may be kissing his fifth-starter opportunity goodbye – the Braves tossed around the right-hander, who surrendered eight earned runs off 10 hits in a 12-10 Phillies loss to the Braves. In his three innings Kendrick walked just one, but also recorded a balk. He was hit hard the entire time on the mound.
Gary Majewski allowed his first runs of the season – two in the fourth inning off three hits. Dave Borkowski and Joe Bisenius, meanwhile, each pitched a scoreless frame. Scott Eyre went scoreless, too. Ryan Madson and Jake Woods each surrendered a run.
The Phillies scored a bunch of runs off Jeff Bennett, as Jason Donald and John Mayberry Jr. each smashed doubles off the Atlanta pitcher. Donald went 3-for-4 with two runs, raising his Grapefruit League average to a sturdy .379. Mayberry, meanwhile, homered along with his double. He is now hitting .290 with three homers and 10 RBI in Grapefruit play. Ryan Howard and Raul Ibanez also drove in two. Starting in center field, Jayson Werth went 0-for-3.
Tim MalcolmTim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
