Last year, the Phillies offense slipped up in one game of the National League Division Series against the Brewers. That game was against right-hander Dave Bush. Guess who’s pitching against the Phillies today?
Bush is carrying a 5.40 ERA, coming off two mediocre starts that showed promise. He was promising to Milwaukee fans in game three of that NLDS, holding the Phils to one run over five-plus innings. For his career, he has trouble against Greg Dobbs (.462, 2 HR), Ryan Howard (.357, 2 HR) and Chase Utley (.444, HR) more than any other Phillie hitters.
The Phillies will send out Cole Hamels, whose first start was atrocious and second start was a little better, but still poor for his standards. His fastball improved in velocity, however, making potential for a strong start today very high. Last time he faced the Brewers he dominated them, pitching eight shutout innings in game one of the NLDS. JJ Hardy has the most success against him, hitting .367 with a home run.
This Business Person’s Special is the final game of the now six-game homestand with the Phils standing at 2-3. They can also even up their 2009 record with a win today.
Go Phillies!
