Gameday: Phillies (2-3) At Rockies (3-2)

Philadelphia Phillies (2-3) at Colorado Rockies (3-2)
Chan Ho Park vs. Aaron Cook (0-0, 23.14 ERA)

Time: 3:10 p.m. at Coors Field, Denver
Weather: Rain, 42
TV: MyPhl 17
Twitter: Phillies Nation

If this one happens, we’ll see Chan Ho Park take the mound for his first start as a Phillie. Park impressed during spring training, flashing a ridiculous strikeout-to-walk ratio (25 to 2) to help secure him the fifth-starter job against JA Happ and a host of others. Park is opposed by Aaron Cook, the Rockies opening-day starter who was bruised by Diamondback home runs Monday.

Luckily for the Phillies, Cook boasts a 6.14 ERA, giving up 52 hits in seven appearances (six starts). Not so luckily, Chan Ho Park hasn’t been great at Coors Field (62 IP, 5.66 ERA).

Last night the Phils took down the Rockies, 8-4, thanks to some heavy hitting from Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth, among others. So far Werth has hit a cycle in Colorado (single, two doubles, triple, home run). Shane Victorino added three hits in the victory, raising his average to a respectable .250. Unbelievably, the Phils collected their first stolen base of the season last night when Chase Utley took second. It was a pretty inconsequential steal. The Phils need to be more loose with the bag to help their cause.

Rain is the forecast all day in Denver, so we’ll see if this one gets in.

Your gameday beer: Nothing look a good Chimay Red to ease the soul. It’s a Dubbel, meaning it’s not quite a Tripel. No, I kid. But Chimay Red is a strong but smooth beer, sweet and tangy on the tongue without any bad aftertaste. Cloves and yeast, the whole bready thing, kind of just sift into your soul and flatten out. Well done, monks, well done.

Go Phillies!

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
