After Brett Myers got pounded by a couple longballs, Jamie Moyer hopes to silence the Atlanta Braves to bring the Phillies even at 1-1. Moyer is starting his 23rd major league season, and again, he’s the oldest man playing baseball professionally.
The Braves counter with Jair Jurrjens, who has fared well against the Phillies during his short career (1-2, 3.33 ERA). Moyer, meanwhile, carries an ERA over 5.00 against the Braves. Who hits him well? Garrett Anderson is a career .327 hitter (.567 slugging) against Moyer. Chipper Jones hits .467 off Moyer, and in 18 at bats, Brian McCann is a straight .500 hitter. That doesn’t bode well for the slowballer.
Your gamenight beer: We went with the special Red & White because Sunday was a special night. But let’s get back to business: Time to turn to tradition and the beer that steers us correctly in good and bad. Tonight we party with Yuengling, the old favorite. Good with a cheesesteak, maybe a pretzel. Let’s even the score and go onward and upward.
Go Phillies!
Tim MalcolmTim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
