Hamels: It’s My Fault

Who’s to blame for the poor start to the season? According to Cole Hamels, look no further.

Jim Salisbury reports Hamels is blaming himself for the bad play out of the shoot. It makes sense, considering Hamels is 0-1 with an 11.17 ERA in two starts. Hamels said he wasn’t completely ready for the season:

“I should be ready, and by not being ready I’m jeopardizing the team. I think that’s what I’ve done the last two starts because I pretty much didn’t fulfill my end of the bargain and get ready the way I should have.”

Hamels said he was distracted during the off-season, as personal appearances and other star matters pushed his preparation back. That could go some way into revealing why his elbow felt sore during spring training (unusual amount of use). To his credit, Hamels seemed to pitch better against San Diego than in his first start against Colorado, but he still didn’t look all too good. Hamels is scheduled to start Thursday against Milwaukee.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
