Moyer Mauled In Loss To Mets

Jamie Moyer had practically nothing for the Mets, as the New Yorkers sliced him and diced him en route to a 7-5 victory at Citi Field.

Moyer left after 2.1 innings, giving up all seven runs on nine hits. He allowed home runs to Carlos Beltran, David Wright and Jose Reyes. He wasn’t painting, and he was throwing up softies down the middle of the plate. Moyer, truly, was horrific.

JA Happ, on the other hand, was sparkling. He gave up just two hits in 3.2 innings, lowering his ERA to 2.84, which is lower than any Phillie starter, by far.

The Phillies only produced three runs off starter Mike Pelfrey, as they routinely grounded into outs and ended small rallies. They collected two runs off Pedro Feliciano in the eighth inning via a Jayson Werth home run. Werth went 4-for-4 in the game, driving in two. Ryan Howard also had a nice game, going 2-for-4 and hitting a solo home run in the sixth inning.

But for every run, there was as many missed opportunities off — again — a hittable Pelfrey. Exhibit A: Jimmy Rollins, who went 1-for-5 and weakly popped up the final out of the game. Carlos Ruiz went 0-for-3 and hit into some bad outs, including a damning double play.

But all blame starts and ends with Moyer. He basically gave the team little chance to win.
