According to Yahoo! Sports, Brett Myers and Cole Hamels reportedly exchanged some heated words in the clubhouse following the Phillies 8-6 win on Monday night.
Myers basically asked Hamels what he was doing there, following Hamels’ remarks a day earlier about wanting the season to end. Hamels then followed that up with an expletive aimed at Myers, and Myers was then removed from the clubhouse.
According to the Twitter of Leslie Gudel of Comcast SportsNet, Gudel claims Myers was in a joking mood as she stood next to the two players.
The feeling here is that the Hamels words have been taken out of context, although in no way should he have spoken about the season ending at a time like this. Myers would have been wise to keep his mouth shut on the subject, as someone who has been oft-injured himself and has barely pitched in the playoffs. Hamels deserves to get killed for this, and he did issue an apology of sorts, but he has to be smarter and more in control of his emotions, especially at a time when the Phillies are under the harshest microscope.
