First, the bad news. Ryan Madson will be out at least 8 weeks after “successful surgery” on his right big toe.  Thats a definite blow to a bullpen that has already struggled.  Onto tonight’s game.

Cole Hamels will take on one of the most underrated pitchers in all of baseball, Adam Wainwright.  Hamels has struggled a bit this year, posting a high ERA and WHIP, but that could be because of his bad luck he’s been carrying. HIs BABIP is a relatively high .333.  He has a sky-high k/9 rate of over 10, which is an excellent sign, meaning he’s missing many bats. He’ll  need to tonight, this Cards team is hot.

Adam Wainwright is on the other side and is as good as they come.  He brings with him a 4-1 record and an ERA in the low two’s. He is considered armed and dangerous on the mound (corny!).

Offensively, Jayson Werth has reached base in 25 straight games, a stat not reached since 1920.  For STL, David Freese is red hot. The NL Player of the Week went 2-for-5 yesterday.

Your gameday beer: Yeungling Light Lager

It’s Lager, but no quite.  Still tastes nearly as good, but it’s lower in calories, which we all care about as summer draws near. Have it with some steaks on the grill tonight.  Get ready for a great pitching matchup too. -By Pat
