Look at that beautiful lineup! It’s back at full strength with Chase Utley returning following a bout with flu-like symptoms. Does anyone actually get the flu anymore? It’s always flu-like.
In any case, J-Roll will slide to the 6th spot, Raul moves down to seven, and overall this is a feared lineup when completely healthy. It’s also the first time at home that this lineup as played together in its entirety. So sorry, Gorzelanny.
That’s Tom Gorzelanny, the Cubs 5th starter. He’s actually having a decent year, with an ERA below four. The only downside for him is a Cubs offense backing him that has been relatively inconsistent throughout the year. One bright spot for the Cubbies has been (gasp!) Alfonso Soriano. Sure, he stinks defensively and makes WAY too much money, but he’s at least trying to back it up this year with a .320 average, 7 HR, 23 RBI. It’s a far cry from his 40/40 days, but it’ll have to do.
Also, how about our old buddy Marlon Byrd. He’s taking kindly to the friendly confines, leading the team with a .340 average to go with seven jacks. He’s been a bright spot in an otherwise below-average year for CHC.
Jamie Moyer will go for victory number six on the season, and number 264 for his career against the team with which he began this long journey. Back in 1986, Moyer won seven games as a member of the Cubs.
Tonight’s Lineup: Victorino (CF), Polanco (3B), Utley (2B), Howard (1B), Werth (RF), Rollins (SS), Ibanez (LF), Ruiz (C), Moyer (P)
