Gameday: Phillies (26-20) at Marlins (24-24)

Philadelphia Phillies (26-19) at Florida Marlins (24-24)

Kyle Kendrick (2-2, 5.66 ERA) at Chris Volstad (3-5, 4.31 ERA)

Time: 7:10, Sun Life Stadium
Weather: Scattered Storms, 78

UPDATE: The game will start late because of inclement weather. They have an estimated start time of 7:35.

Well, what can you say. The Phillies are futile right now when it comes to their offense. It’s been three games, 27 innings, since the Phils have scored a run.  It’s been since Sunday for God’s sake!

On to the pitching. Cole Hamels was very good yesterday, now it’s Kyle Kendrick’s turn. He’s just 2-2 on the year with an ERA in the fives, so they’re best isn’t going.  As it stands, he’ll need to do all he can on a muggy evening on South Florida to keep his team in the game.  KK has uninspiring numbers against the Fish in his career. He’s 2-2 with an ERA above six.  Let’s hope he finds a way this evening.

Chris Volstad has some pretty good numbers against the Phils (2-2, 3.21 ERA in 6 starts). The last thing the Phils need is another hot pitcher getting to them.  Volstad has been so-so this year, but fares better against lefties than righties, somehow. Lefties hit just .225 against him, righties go .258. The 6’8″ righty has shown signs of brilliance, but can also be had.  Let’s see if the Phils can smack him around this evening.

Tonight’s Lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Ibanez LF, Ruiz C, Valdez SS, Hamels P

Enjoy your holiday weekend with some Imperial. It won’t knock your socks off, but it will refresh you a bit. It’s a Costa Rican import, so think of the sun and sand while guzzling this brew tonight.  Hot dogs and Hamburgers on the grill with it.– By Pat
