Last night was surely a better-than-average performance for the wily lefty. His complete game (second of the season, eighth since turning 40, 33rd of his career) consisted of 2 runs on 7 hits, a walk and a strikeout, with 65 of his 98 pitches called strikes. For the season, he lowered his ERA to 3.98 and holds a 1.08 WHIP.
As I mentioned the Phils lineup did their duty as well against Jon Garland. Jayson Werth hit a two-run homer, Ryan Howard was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Chase Utley also drove in a run. The big three were back in business
, and only Raul Ibanez was held without a hit.Hopefully the team can keep those bats hot (or at least slightly above room temperature) and pull off a sweep of win the series against the NL-West leading Padres on Sunday afternoon. They remain 2 games back from Atlanta in the East as Joe Blanton takes to the mound looking for his second win of the season.
