Oswalt Says He Wants to Come to Philly

According to Mark J. Miller of Yahoo Sports, Roy Oswalt has a list of three teams where he’d like to land should Houston put him on the market: the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, and New York Yankees.

This further proves Philly is now a hotbed for baseball given the teams recent success, however, is this a feasible trade? If the Phils were to go after Oswalt, would it uncover a mistake made by the organization when they let Cliff Lee go?

Oswalt would no doubt strengthen a pitching staff that has battled the injury bug. J.A. Happ is still far from ready. Joe Blanton has been inconsistent at best following his early DL stint. Kyle Kendrick is middling as a fifth starter.

The bigger question might be; what do the Phils have to offer? Their farm system is depleted following the Roy Halladay trade in December. And although they do boast a few prospects obtained in the Lee trade, it would seem unlikely they’d purge their youth at the expense of a $32 million pitcher. That said, Ruben Amaro has maneuvered silently in the past, so perhaps he has something up his sleeve regarding the Astros ace.
