Phillies Injury Update: Happ and Rollins

From the Phillies Public Relations Department:

LHP J.A. Happ (left forearm strain) will continue his rehab assignment by making a start for double-A Reading on Sunday (6/13).

SS Jimmy Rollins (right calf strain) will workout with the team in Philadelphia tomorrow. On Friday, he will workout in Clearwater, Fla. On Monday, June 14, he will begin a rehab assignment with single-A Clearwater.

Happ pitched three innings yesterday, allowing two runs. He’s still a ways from coming back and you have to wonder if he’ll jump right back into the rotation. Kyle Kendrick has righted the ship (up until Tuesday night) and Joe Blanton is being paid $24 million over the life of his three-year deal, meaning Happ could pitch out of the bullpen when he’s ready to return. It would make sense. They could ease him back into a role by using him as the long man and slowly allow Kendrick time to decrease his role.

Jimmy Rollins may be starting his rehab assignment on Monday, but he isn’t that close either. He said it himself; he won’t push it in the beginning like he did the last time he returned from the calf strain. The Phillies will give him off days to ease himself back into game shape.
