From the Phillies:
“First baseman Ryan Howard is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment tomorrow, Senior Vice President & General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.
Howard is scheduled to play for single-A Lakewood tomorrow. He was placed on the disabled list on August 3 (retroactive to August 2) with a sprained left ankle, suffered while sliding back into second base at Nationals Park on August 1. If Howard progresses in his rehab, he is scheduled to play for triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday.
Prior to tomorrow’s game in Lakewood, the BlueClaws will retire the number 29 Howard wore while playing for the team in 2002. He will be the first former BlueClaws player to have his number retired by the team. The jersey retirement was originally scheduled for Thursday, September 2, but was postponed because the Phillies will now make up a previously postponed game in Colorado on that date.”
