Could Franzke Head Back to Texas?

Thanks go out to John Finger from CSNPhilly.com on this one. Josh Lewin, the TV Play-by-Play voice of the Texas Rangers will not have his contract renewed once the season is up, meaning there will be a vacancy.

Barry Horn of the Dallas Morning News wonders in his column if the Rangers are hoping that Scott Franzke would come back to the South. Franzke was a part of the Rangers pre-and-postgame coverage on the radio from 1997 to 1998. He left for play by play work in the minors, then went back to the Rangers for a second stint on the pre and post from 2002-05.

Franzke hails from Dallas and went to Southern Methodist University.

Phillies fans will not want to hear this news, even if this is completely speculation. The 38-year old Franzke has quickly become a fan favorite paired with Larry Anderson in the radio booth. I’m sure if the time came, the faithful would rally with some sort of petition to keep Scott in Philadelphia.

Tomorrow night on 97.3 ESPN FM, Scott is schedule to be one of my guests on “Red October”, a Phillies playoff special I host once a week. We’ll get the scoop then.
