Phillies Easily Handle Florida St, 8-0

It was an easy victory for the Phillies today in front of 3,900-plus at Bright House Field in Clearwater, as they beat the visiting Florida State Seminoles, 8-0.

Every year, Florida St. opens up the exhibition season for the Phils, giving college players the opportunity to take the big stage against the professionals. As expected, it was a lopsided affair that was blown open early. In the first inning, the Phillies stamped four on the board, two of them off the bat of Ryan Howard as he doubled to deep center field.

The crew of young hurlers looked solid against the ‘Noles, as well. Drew Naylor started things off and pitched two scoreless innings. He was followed by free agent pickup Eddie Bonine for two innings. Juan Perez, Michael Stutes, Michael Schwimer, Justin De Fratus, and Scott Mathieson each pitches one inning.

Cole Hamels will get the start on Saturday against the New York Yankees. Bartolo Colon will oppose him.
