BROWN SLATED FOR TUESDAY SURGERY?
According to all the beat reporters, Domonic Brown is likely to have surgery on his broken right hand on Tuesday. Brown is on his way back to Philadelphia to see hand specialist Randall Culp on Monday. If Culp sees a need for surgery on the break, he’ll go under the knife on Tuesday and miss four-to-six weeks.
Look tomorrow for Dash Treyhorn’s piece on Dom Brown.
PHILLIES BEAT RAYS IN CLEARWATER
Joel Naughton knocked in the game-winning run with a walkoff single in the ninth to beat the Rays in Clearwater, 5-4.
This one was all about Cliff Lee, however. Lee was stellar over four innings, striking out five while walking none. He allowed just two singles on the day. So, basically, the Big Four are in tip-top shape.
Offensively, the ball was jumping out of the park today as winds shot out to right field. Ryan Howard, Brian Schnieder, and Matt Rizzotti each launched one.
PHILLIES LOSE IN LAKELAND
In Lakeland, Kyle Kendrick pitched three scoreless against the Tigers, but the Phillies fell 2-1.
Matt Anderson got the call in the ninth inning, and while he did give up the Tigers winning run, he hit 99 on the radar gun. Anderson is working to get back to the major leagues and he seems to have found his old heater. The question now is, can he get enough reps and stick around? Anderson is a long shot for the Phillies roster, but he could find himself in Lehigh Valley to begin the year.
Wilson Valdez had three more hits and John Mayberry smashed an opposite field homer for the Phillies only run.
