Chase Utley Goes 1-for-7 in 2nd Spring Start

It wasn’t as pretty as the first game, but then again, seeing Chase Utley on a field is pretty nonetheless.

After a 5-for-7 start to his extended spring training schedule, Utley had an off day yesterday and came back with a 1-for-7 today. He legged out an infield single and struck out twice, according to Dave Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News. Utley also played in the field in the first, second, fourth, and fifth innings.

Try not to look to much into the numbers. What Utley is getting are all-important reps and the plate, as well as much needed time in the field. If he continues to progress and feel no pain as he hits and fields, a full-on rehab appearance will not be far off. But for now, he’ll continue to work it out in Clearwater in extended spring training.
