INJURY UPDATES:
–Brad Lidge had a cortisone shot on his right elbow, which the team is saying is just flaring up a bit. He could be throwing in a week. However, that’s now been several shots into that elbow and you have to wonder if it’ll be able to handle the rigors of a major league season again. Lidge might be pitching soon, but don’t expect much from him, which is a shame; he’s one of the nicest people in the clubhouse.
-Still no J-Roll. He did take part in a catch with coach Mick Billmeyer before the game, but is still not 100 percent. His knee continues to have some swelling, which is hindering his mobility. The team is calling it a deep bone bruise. The team will give it another 24-48 hours before deciding whether or not a DL stint is necessary.
Before you ask, it’s pronounced Ruby, like the slipper. Rubby De La Rosa makes his first major league start tonight, here is a little about him. He was in Double-A before making the jump in late May to the bigs. Last season, he was named the Dodgers minor league pitcher of the year. De La Rosa was so good in the minors he did not allow his first home run until 2010, his fourth professional season. The way the Phillies are hitting, he may not give a major league homer up yet either.
Dee Gordon, son of former Phillies reliever Tom Gordon, played in his first professional game last night, scoring the only run for L.A. Tonight, he’ll get his first start. Gordon is leading off, playing shortstop.
Roy Oswalt had been winless for quite a while – five straight starts. It’s been since April 21 that Oswalt was given a W. Good news: he’s 5-0 with a 1.49 ERA in his last six starts against L.A.
