The Phillies have maintained interest in acquiring a right-handed, power-hitting outfield bat and Jon Heyman says that Vernon Wells is among their top targets. Heyman notes Cody Ross also remains on the Phillies’ radar.
Analysis: Wells has been an absolute trainwreck for the Angles since they acquired him at the start of the 2011 season. His lines of .218/.248/.412 and .230/.279/.403 made him one of baseball’s worst part time players at one of its greatest overall costs. Wells is due $21 million each of the next two seasons. At this price, Ross looks like a clearance bin purchase.
