The Fightins suffered a tough loss on Wednesday, scattering only 3 runs and 5 hits against the lowly Astros. Phillies pitchers struggled to keep the Astros off the basepaths, surrendering 10 runs over 15 hits and allowing six walks. Vance Worley was tagged for 2 runs and 4 runs were dropped on Pat Misch, 3 unearned. Dontrelle Willis threw 2/3 of ineffective baseball, allowing 4 earned on 3 hits and 2 walks. Former Phillies top prospect Jonathan Singleton went 1-2 with a run scored for the ‘Stros.

Despite the loss, there were a few stand-out bright spots. Hector Luna continued his hot spring (.375), hitting a 9th inning home run and played first base. Jonathan Papelbon continued his spring with business as usual with 2 Ks in the fifth. Newport News, VA-native BJ Rosenberg also K’ed 2 in 1.1 IP as he battles for a spot in the ‘Pigs Pen and keeps his name in the picture for a spot in the ‘pen should injuries occur. Chad Qualls and Mike Stutes also posted scoreless frames.

The Phils look to rebound tomorrow at home against the Pirates. Game starts at 1:05 PM and can be seen on The Comcast Network.
