Phillies Send Schwimer, Aumont to Minor League Camp

On Tuesday morning, according to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer, two promising, young pitchers were sent down to Minor League camp. Michael Schwimer, who gave up two runs in four innings during Spring Training, and Phillippe Aumont, who struggled with his control but showed a big arm, were the unlucky ones.

During my week in Clearwater, I got the opportunity to speak with Schwimer a couple of times. He seemed at ease with his spot within the organization, saying that he, and other relievers, were not vying for just one or two open spots. Schwimer is well aware that injuries will occur, so he knows his opportunity will come.

Aumont throws hard but lacks consistent control on his pitches, which is the main reason he’s been sent to the minors. The 23-year old righty allowed four runs in four innings, walking four and striking out four.

Something tells me we’ll be seeing more of these guys in the near future. Both have bright futures in the bullpen. For Schwimer, he just needs to have his Triple-A success translate to the highest level for a longer period of time. As for Aumont, it’s all about honing his skills within that big arm.

Also, lefties David Purcey and Jeremy Horst were reassigned.
