Ooooh yeah! Doc takes the hill in the hometown of the late, great “Macho Man” Randy Savage this afternoon ready to snap into the Baltimore Orioles in the beautifully renovated Ed Smith Stadium. Doc looks to get back on track after some rough starts. We learned today Doc’s start was pushed from yesterday to today so that he would be on schedule to pitch Opening Day, as well as the projected order for the season: Doc, Cliff Lee, and Vance Worley in Pittsburgh to line-up Cole Hamels’s big moment: starting the home opener. Good for Cole.
Four pitchers were sent to Minor League camp today: lefties Jeremy Horst and David Purcey and righties Phillippe Aumont and Mike Schwimer. Lefties Jake Diekman, Joe Savery, and Raul Valdes plan to get a look for the second lefty spot at the ‘pen. All are having impressive Springs.
In injury news via David Hale, Antoino Bastardo’s velocity has been down due to dehydration, Rich Dubee says Joel Pineiro was hurt, Laynce Nix’s ribs are feeling better, and Dom Brown’s neck/possible strep throat should only keep him out until Thursday.
Of note today: Freddy Galvis is leading off, Lou Montanez looks to continue his hot Spring from the 2 hole, and JMJ is playing center field.
