Have the bats finally broken out? We can hardly call 10 strong innings by the offense an eruption, but let’s hope it’s a sign. The Phillies will have to work hard against tough righty Trevor Cahill. Brought over from the A’s in the offseason, Cahill will walk a batter or two (10 BB in 19.1 innings) if the Phillies will let him. Let’s see if they can add patience and plate discipline to the mix in the rubber match and series finale.
One person who has had no plate discipline is Jimmy Rollins, and he gets the day off. He’s hitting just .229 right now and getting on-base at a lousy .267 clip.
It’s also the finale of the 10-game road swing and with a victory, the Phils can go 5-5. Corey and I said 7-3 was a must on this trip to quell the moaning from the fans, and they will not get there. Let’s hope a split down the middle happens.
On the mound looking to help make that happen is Cole Hamels. He’s 2-1 with a very respectable ERA, but hasn’t had his best stuff for a complete outing. Imagine that. He’s struck out 23 on the year while walking just 2, but has given up 20 hits in 18.1 innings. Let’s see if he can stifle the snakes today.
DL TRIP ALERT: Michael Stutes is the latest Phillie to hit the DL, going with a bum shoulder. He attempted to fight through the pain he had been feeling since spring training, but was no longer able to. The Phillies have recalled Michael Schwimer, and he should be available today as he took an early flight to Arizona this morning.
Lineup: Pierre LF, Polanco 3B, Victorino CF, Pence RF, Nix 1B, Orr 2B, Ruiz C, Galvis SS, Hamels P
In honor of their 180th Anniversary, America’s Oldest Brewery proudly offers up this celebratory Yuengling Bock Beer. This seasonal release resurrects an old brewery tradition of producing a Bock in the late winter and early spring. Dark brown in color, this unique brew offers an exceptional flavor. I’ve had many of these over the past month or so and find it much tastier than a normal Yueng. It appears to be for a limited time, so give it a whirl if you stumble across it. I think you’ll be satisfied. -Pat Gallen
