The Brewers are in town as the Phillies look to work their way back into wild card contention? Is it possible? Charlie Manuel is still holding out hope. He seemed relatively positive before the game knowing the team is nearly fully healthy. However, with the trade deadline looming, how long will they all be together for?
The feeling around the park is that Hamels will sign. I was feeling 70/30 before this past weekend, but after hearing his quotes, I’ve lessened my stance a bit. Still, there is no time to mess around. Just about a week until the deadline.
For tonight, Placido Polanco is out with a sore back, which he started feeling last week. You’ve got to wonder how much Polly has left in the tank. He has just 17 extra-base hits this season. He’s no power hitter, but even for him that’s weak. They’ll give him a rest and let Ty Wigginton play tonight.
The Phillies will try to tee off on Randy Wolf. Wigginton has really good numbers against him (10-for-30), as does Juan Pierre, who is not in the lineup, for some reason. Pierre hits Wolf at a .412 clip, but Mayberry will start.

Anything Sierra is a friend of mine. If you’re into barleywines, which I’m not, I’ve heard this is a good one. I’ll ride with SN because they just make damned good beers. It’s a gold medal winning brew just about everywhere, but be forewarned – it will put you on your ass. At 9.6 ABV, it’s strong. And it’s pretty bitter, so have one, then reassess.
