The Phillies snapped their five game losing streak with last night’s 8-5 victory over the Rockies.   If the Phillies want any shot at making a run, they have to win as many series as possible.  A win today would be a good start.

Cole Hamels last pitched an inning during the All Star Game.  He retired the side in order.  July is passing quickly, and the trade deadline on July 31 is quickly approaching.  Will this be  Hamels’ last star as a Phillie?  We don’t have an answer yet, but every start creates that question.

Hamels will be opposed by Drew Pomeranz, who has little major league experience.  He has done well in 35.1 innings in the big leagues this season, limiting batters to a .217 average.  Pomeranz has a good fastball and curveball, and is working on a changeup.

Your gameday beer: Here’s 14’ER ESB from Avery Brewing in Colorado. An Extra Special (or Extra Strong Bitter) beer, the 14’ER smells like a hefeweizen but tastes like a combination bitter and sweet beer. So it’s not as strong as you’d think, making it a perfect beer: Bitter, spring smell, light enough to have a few. Enjoy it with some clams. –By Tim
