The Phillies dropped their second straight to the New York Mets, losing 3-2. Tyler Cloyd pitched well, but was out-dueled by fellow rookie Matt Harvey.
CLOYD IMPRESSIVE DURING DEBUT
-Tyler Cloyd made the “emergency start” due to Cole Hamels’ illness. Cloyd was called up, and pitched fairly well in his debut. He went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked two.
-The only big mistake Cloyd made was in the third inning when he gave up a two-run home run to Lucas Duda. Cloyd missed his spot, leaving the pitch up and in. Duda took advantage of the rookie mistake, and crushed it to right field. The Mets took a 3-2 lead, and held onto that score for the rest of the game.
OFFENSE QUIETED
-The lone runs came on a Ryan Howard sacrifice fly and a Jimmy Rollins RBI double in the first and second innings. Other than that, the Phillies offense was shut down.
-Harvey only gave up six hits, as the Phillies were just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The Mets bullpen also did their job, pitching a combined 2.2 hitless innings.
GAME NOTES
-The Phillies bullpen will try another scoreless inning streak. Jeremy Horst, Antonio Bastardo, Phillippe Aumont, and Josh Lindblom combined for three scoreless innings.
