Phillies Sellout Streak Ends at 257 Games

The fans have spoken. Phillies fans do not want to shell out good money for an underachieving team and have made their collective voices heard.

After 257 consecutive sellouts, the Phillies streak ended on Monday night against Atlanta. Just 41,665 came out to Citizens Bank Park. It’s a respectable number, but not quite the 43,000-plus needed to extend the streak.

“The number of sellouts could not have been possible without the tremendous loyalty of our fans who continue to lead all of Major League Baseball in average attendance this year,” said Phillies President David Montgomery.

The Phillies’ consecutive sellout streak was the longest ever in the National League and the third-longest in Major League Baseball history. The Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians hold the two highest records in MLB; the Red Sox have a current streak of 772 sellouts while the Indians experienced 455 sellouts from 1995-2001.
