Lee Brilliant, Brown Homers Again in Phils Win over Red Sox

Cliff Lee was vintage. Absolutely exceptional against one of the best offenses in the game, shutting down Boston over eight innings in the Phillies 3-1 win. Jonathan Papelbon made his return to Beantown and recorded his 10th save.

LEE ON POINT

-Man did they need a line like this out of Lee: 8 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, 8 strikeouts, 95 pitches.

-I have a big issue taking Lee out there. He was absolutely cruising, and I get the fact that your high-priced closer is waiting to come in, but why fix what isn’t broken? Lee barely worked all night and the Phillies pulled him for the sentimental value of Papelbon in Boston. Can’t say I loved it. What did you think?

BROWN AND YOUNG HOMER

-Michael Young led off the scoring in the first inning, snapping an 0-for-22 streak with his second home run of the season. It hasn’t been easy for Young lately, especially in the power department, so it was nice to see him strike early.

-Domonic Brown is freakin’ red hot. After winning the NL Player of the Week Award, Brown smashed his 11th home run to right center field into the bullpen. If you’re into this sort of thing, Dom Brown’s on pace for 34 homers and 93 RBI. Not bad. Raise your hand if you wanted him gone – I know you’re out there. At the conclusion of the game, Dom’s 11 homers were tied for 6th in the NL.

-Ugly evenings from Ryan Howard and Delmon Young. Howard fanned three times and on back-to-back at-bats, Young swung at the first pitch.
