Blown Out, Shut Out

The Phillies were blown out and shutout by the New York Mets, 8-0. They lost the series, 1-2.

Another Error Starts Another Mets Rally

In the fifth inning, Juan Lagares sent a fly ball to centerfield. It looked to be an easy catch for Ben Revere, but the ball was dropped. Actually, it was only ruled a drop by the second base umpire. The replay showed that Revere indeed made the catch, but lost the ball on the exchange. It was scored a three-base error, and Lagares started the inning on third base.

The Mets would go on to hit three doubles in the inning, giving them a 4-0 lead at the time.

Bottom line: Revere should have used two hands on the catch.

Lannan Struggles

John Lannan didn’t get the job done. He lasted only five innings, surrendering six runs on eight hits. The Mets, a typically weak hitting ball club, smacked Lannan around hitting extra base hit after extra base hit.

On the other hand, Matt Harvey controlled the Phillies, tossing six shutout innings. Harvey allowed only two hits. The Mets bullpen continued their recent success as they held the Phillies to just two hits.

Bottom line: You can’t win if you don’t score.
