Phillies Leave L.A. After Ugly Weekend

The Phillies saw Puig up close (AP)

This weekend was mostly unfortunate for the Phillies outside of their 16-run barrage on Friday night, which happened to be the only time this season the team has eclipsed 10 runs in game.

Few things:

-Yaisel Puig certainly looks like the real deal. And it’s a damn shame he ripped on the Phils all weekend, although we’re seeing history in the making. With four hits on Sunday, Puig finished June with 44 hits, surpassing the 42 by Pittsburgh’s Bob Elliott in September 1939 for the second-most in a player’s first full calendar month in the major leagues. Joe DiMaggio had 48 in May 1936. Puig also eclipsed the Los Angeles Dodgers ‘ record for most hits in a month by a rookie, set by Steve Sax in August 1982.

-The news of Cole Hamels being pushed back is disheartening, but necessary. The guy needs to clear his head and come back against the Pirates with a strong outing.

-It’s nice to see Ben Revere hitting. His average is up to .289, so if you ripped on the guy, time to apologize.

-Ryan Howard is now 0-for-20 on this current slump, including 11 strikeouts. Do they DL him? Do they bench him? You know it’s ugly when Charlie Manuel is swapping him out in a big hitting situation for Kevin Frandsen.
