Philadelphia Phillies (49-48) vs New York Mets (41-51)
Cole Hamels (4-11, 4.05 ERA) vs Zack Wheeler (3-1 3.54 ERA)
TIME: 1:10, Citi Field
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Weather: 93, cloudy
Last night the Phillies jumped over the .500 mark for the first time since June 6, and today they will try to set their high water mark for the season at two games over in a Saturday matinee against the Mets. With the win last night, the Phillies passed the Washington Nationals for second place in the division, and are six and a half back of the Braves in the N.L. East.
Cole Hamels has pitched well of late for the Phillies, and he will get the baseball again today. In his last three starts he is 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 23 innings. His last time out against the Mets he suffered the loss after allowing four runs in seven innings of work, but back in April he did hold them to a run over six innings for his only win in the first two months of the season.
The Phillies will be seeing a new arm in Zack Wheeler, one of the Mets top pitching prospects. Wheeler has had his good outings and his bad outings since being called up in mid-June, but lately he has been pitching superbly. In his last two outings he combined to go 12 innings and allowed just two runs while striking out eight. He has never faced the Phillies or any of their hitters.
Lineup: Rollins SS, M. Young 3B, Utley 2B, Brown LF, Ruf 1B, D. Young RF, Mayberry CF, Ruiz C, Hamels P
