Phillies Destroyed By Tigers Again, Go 1-8 on Road Trip

On Sunday, I watched some of the ugliest baseball since the mid-to-late-1990’s. Midre Cummings, Tony Longmire, and Kevin Sefcik were not in Detroit.

Instead, the 2013 Phillies were in attendance, and they got spanked by the Tigers, 12-4. I look at this season like an 18-wheeler with no brakes headed down the side of a mountain. You’re not sure what’s going to stop it.

Will someone be fired after this debacle and road trip that started 1-0, only to finish 1-8? Things got so bad today, that the Phillies allowed 8 unearned runs in one inning without an earned run. Errors, bad pitching, bad offense; all of it was on display.

If anything, it pretty much seals the deal that they will definitely be selling off parts. They have no choice. It’s clearly time for a change on many different fronts.

One aside: how awful was it that Miguel Cabrera got thrown out of the game? Chad Fairchild, the home plate umpire, should be embarrassed by that. And according to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer, by ejecting Cabrera and manager Jim Leyland, that makes 4 ejections in the last 8 days.
