All Star Game Highlights
The American League beat the National League 3-0 in the 2013 midsummer classic. The game was dominated by pitching, as the National League only managed three hits.
The American League scored two runs on a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice. The AL added a run in the 8th inning against Craig Kimbrel, an RBI double by Jason Kipnis.
The best moment was in the eighth inning, when Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” blasted over the speakers as Mariano Rivera entered his last All Star Game ever. He walked on the field alone, as both dugouts gave him a standing ovation, sending goosebumps across the baseball nation. Rivera tossed a 1-2-3 inning, and earned the MVP honors.
Lee Surrenders a Run
Cliff Lee appeared in the fifth inning, tossing 32 pitches. He got himself into some trouble, but was able to get out of the jam with just one run.
He allowed a lead-off double to Adam Jones, who eventually scored on a fielder’s choice. Joe Mauer followed Jones with a base hit of his own, a single off the glove of Troy Tulowitzki. It could be argued that Jimmy Rollins would have made the play, but Brandon Phillips would soon make two great plays to help Lee escape the inning.
Lee gave up a run and two hits in the inning. Luckily it doesn’t count towards his ERA.
Brown’s All Star Debut
Domonic Brown entered the game in the sixth inning. His first and only at-bat was in the seventh inning, with a man on and the NL down 2-0. Brett Cecil struck him out.
