Flashback: Five Years Ago Today, Victorino Was Grand

Can you believe it has been five years? Five years ago today, I was a college senior at NYU, finished with classes for the day. Because the rooms were the size of a large storage closet, I watched the game sitting cross-legged on my bed. The Phils had just won Game 1 and were looking to take a commanding 2-0 series lead.

C.C. Sabathia had been unreal for the Brewers after being acquired from Cleveland, 11-2 with a 1.65 ERA but was in big trouble early. After giving up back-to-back doubles to Jayson Werth and Pedro Feliz that allowed the Phillies to knot the game at ones, Sabathia would soon issue a back-to-back walks to Brett Myers and Jimmy Rollins to load the bases.

With two outs and a 1-2 count, Shane Victorino sent Sabathia’s offering straight to left field to give the Phillies a 5-1 lead. The grand slam would be all they needed as they went on to win 5-2.
