The Phillies announced today through their Twitter that Wally Joyner and Juan Samuel will be returning to the Phillies in 2014 in their respective roles, assistant hitting coach and first base coach. Joyner joined the Phillies staff for the 2013 season while Samuel has been a coach with the Phillies since 2011. Under Dave Henderson and Joyner, the Phillies ranked 21st in MLB in batting average, 24th in on-base percentage, and 21st in slugging while the Phillies under Samuel ranked 21st in stolen bases while they were tied for 16th with a 72% success rate in 2013.
