Lannan Becomes Free Agent

John Lannan has refused an assignment to the minor leagues, therefore becoming a free agent today.

Lannan, 29, began his time with the Phillies with two solid starts before struggling through his third start on an injured leg, which would force him to miss two months. He was never the same pitcher.

Following his return on June 17, Lannan posted just four quality starts the rest of the way and finished the season back on the DL with a knee injury.

For $2.5 million, Lannan looked to be a steal as the Phillies fifth start to start the season but, like everything else in 2013, fell apart.
