Cole Hamels spoke before the home opener against the Brewers and said that he might need just two more rehab starts. Ryne Sandberg backed that, but said they would reevaluated following his second start.
Hamels said he’ll throw in Clearwater on Friday and hopes to get in five or six innings, or 80 pitches. His next start, the Phillies hope Hamels will reach 90 pitches. From there, they’ll see how he feels. Hamels himself said he feels great and is basically using this as a spring training.
This is great news as it was thought Hamels could miss the entire first month of the season after falling behind due to biceps tendinitis.
