To finish off their 10-game road trip to the western United States, the Phillies beat the Diamondbacks, 2-0, behind an impressive performance from A.J. Burnett.
BURNETT BURNS
-Burnett was excellent, shutting down Arizona by striking out eight over eight scoreless innings. This is exactly why the Phillies signed him – to be the solid complement to Lee and Hamels that can also dominate from time to time.
-Since being diagnosed with an inguinal hernia – which he said helped shorten his stride and keep his mechanics tighter – Burnett has posted a 0.83 ERA and the Phillies have won all three starts.
JUST ENOUGH
-Brandon McCarthy also stifled the opposition, as he sat down 12 batters in seven innings. They got to him for one in the first inning on Chase Utley’s RBI single, and one in the sixth as Utley scored on a throwing error by shortstop Chris Owings.
COMING HOME
-The Phillies return home having won six of their last eight games. They’ll open a series on Tuesday against the Mets one game over the .500-mark at 13-12.
