The Phillies have added infielder Reid Brignac to their Major League roster today following the demotion last night of Freddy Galvis. Brignac, 28, is a former four-time Baseball America Top 100 prospect and was having a very good year at Triple-A Lehigh Valley (.284/.357/.514 with 5 HR, 3 SB in 128 PA).
The Phillies have also promoted flame-throwing reliever Ken Giles from Double-A Reading to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Giles, 23, has a 1.20 ERA in 15 IP with 29 K v. 5 BB. Heading into the season, Giles was focused on command. This will certainly not be the last we hear of Giles: our minor league insider filmed a segment for an upcoming Phillies Nation TV episode with Giles yesterday. Giles is not on the 40-man roster but it would surprise almost no one if he wore Phillies’ pinstripes before the year is over.
Finally, 38-year old RHP Shawn Camp elected to become a free agent, refusing an assignment with the IronPigs. Camp was replaced on the 25-man roster by RHP Luis Garcia yesterday.
