Yeah, I went there. The Phillies, who have not scored in 20 straight innings, were blanked by Alfredo Simon and the Reds, 3-0.
KENDRICK BAD, THEN GOOD
-Kyle Kendrick started off the game with a lousy first inning, allowing a three-run homer to just-off-the-DL Devin Mesoraco. That would be all. At one point, he sat down 15 in a row, but it was not enough. Through seven innings, he struck out five and walked just one. It was quite Kendrickian.
SIMON VERY GOOD
-Apologies for the title of the post, but it was too easy. Simon has had a very good season and looked Cy-esque tonight, although the Phillies tend to do that to teams lately. Through 7 2/3 innings, Simon allowed no runs on just five hits while walking one and fanning eight.
OFFENSIVE
-Chase Utley had two hits, raising his average to .347 in the process. Cody Asche had the only extra base hit. That would pretty much be all. As I said at the top, the Phillies haven’t scored in 20 straight innings. That’s just embarrassing. They finished the night 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
BASTARDO?
-He struck out the side in the eighth inning and we continue to be unable to figure him out.
