Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg held a closed door meeting before Tuesday nights game and it didn’t seem to have an effect. The Phillies got smoked by the Nationals 7-0 in a game that could be described as “predictable”. The Phillies have now lost 18 of their last 27 games and fall to 24-32 on the season.
Phillies starter David Buchanan got hit hard, as he surrendered seven earned runs in six innings of work. The Phillies offense was shut out for the seventh time this season. Ben Revere saw his eight game hitting streak get snapped, and shortstop Jimmy Rollins went 1-3 at the plate bringing him just eight hits away from tying Mike Schmidt for the franchise record.
The Phillies will turn to right hander AJ Burnett tomorrow to stop the bleeding. Burnett is 3-4 on the season with a 3.79 ERA. He will be opposed by some guy named Stephen Strasburg.
