Phillies Come Alive in Win over Marlins

David Buchanan held up through five innings and the Phillies offense came to life in the 7-4 win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.

-Buchanan went five and got the win, although he walked four batters and was pulled after 94 pitches. But you’ll take that from a fifth starter just filling in for Cliff Lee.

-BJ Rosenberg, not good at filling in. He gave up a two run homer in the eighth inning.

-Ken Giles is very good at filling in. He had another scoreless inning and struck out Giancarlo Stanton with a 99 mph fastball in the seventh.

-One bright spot is, of course, Giancarlo Stanton. I was selfishly  hoping he would hit one onto Ashburn Alley tonight because he’s got such incredible power, as we’ve seen before. He did go yard, but did finish 3 for 5. Stanton is hitting .308 with a .592 slugging percentage. Manly.

-Marlon Byrd hit an absolute laser to center field just to the right of the 409 sign for his 13th home run of the season.

-Cody Asche went 1 for 4 but did damage with his only hit, a two-run double. What exactly is Asche? Can he be a solid offensive player? Will he stick at third? So many questions about him, but right now the bat works.

-Amazing moment in the bottom of the eighth when Tony Gwynn Jr. stepped to the plate. The Phillies fans gave him a standing ovation to show their respects to Gwynn’s Hall of Fame father, Tony Sr., who passed away last week. Love moments like that. Props to the Phillies fans.

-It was another long one: 3:15 to be exact. Not many quick games with this team anymore, unfortunately.
