Outfielder Grady Sizemore cleared waivers and has become a free agent. According to Jon Heyman, the 31-year old former All-Star Outfielder is drawing interest from the Phillies. Sizemore hit .216/.288/.324 with two homers in his first Major League action since 2011 for the Red Sox. For a time, Sizemore was one of the most electric center fielders in baseball but had been hobbled by back and knee injuries.
Analysis: The Phillies are creeping into contention with an outfield that currently lacks a left fielder. Would Sizemore be that person to put them in the driver’s seat headed into the All-Star break? Probably not, but he is certainly a worthwhile addition to a bench that lacks left-handed power.
