Phils Drop Fifth Straight

The Phillies dropped their fifth straight game Wednesday night, losing 8-4 to the Nationals. A.J. Burnett struggled a ton, and the offense did not show much life. A long rain delay that split the seventh inning only made things worse. Here’s some notes from the game:

Bad Outing For Burnett

A.J. Burnett had a rough outing, allowing eight earned runs over six innings. He allowed ten hits, including four for extra bases. He walked four and struck out three. It was unquestionably his worst start of the year. For the Nationals, Stephen Strasburg threw seven innings while only allowing two earned runs.

Pinch Hitting Mayberry

After another pinch hit home run, John Mayberry Jr is now 7-12 as a pinch hitter this year, including two doubles, three home runs, and 11 RBI. His 11 pinch-hit RBIs are good for 7th on the team, with everyone ahead of him being an everyday player. Only Ben Revere

and Carlos Ruiz are behind him among starters.

Losing Continues

The Phillies have now lost each of their last five games, and ten of their last fourteen. They are playing some bad baseball, too. The team meeting this week seems to have had little effect on the team. Jimmy Rollins struck out four times in one game for the first time in his career. This is also the fifth straight series loss against the Nationals.

The series finale with the Nats is set for tomorrow afternoon at 4:05 PM.
