Phillies to install metal detectors at Citizens Bank Park

The Phillies are installing metal detectors at the Right Field Gate of Citizens Bank Park during the upcoming homestand and they will be fully operational starting on Monday, July 21.  The move is in response to a league-wide mandate from MLB to have metal detectors present at all stadiums next season.  This initial phase is a pilot program for increased screening procedures and will expand park-wide during the off-season.

Fans will be required to pass through the metal detector prior having their tickets scanned.  They will need to remove all cell phones, cameras and other large metal items but will not have to remove their shoes or belts as with airport security.  Hand-held devices will be used for those fans who cannot pass through the metal detectors.

The increased security comes a year after the Eagles beefed up their gate security and have been coordinated with the Department of Homeland Security.  The move is not in response to a specific incident, rather it is seen as a preventative precautionary measure.
