Pitchers and catchers arrived to Clearwater last week while position players have been filtering in in anticipating for the start of Spring Training proper. Two All-Stars spoke to the media yesterday while the GM told media he reached out to a third All-Star.
Shortly after beginning his press conference with an accidental expletive asking if the cameras and voice recorders were rolling, Chase Utley addressed low expectations for 2015 and his sprained ankle. Utley stated that he sprained his ankle in January but that he has been recovering well. Utley also addressed that while he would never ask for a day off, he would be OK with manager Ryne Sandberg resting him or playing him at first base. Utley also stated he would stay a Phillie as long as he could.
Domonic Brown spoke to the media yesterday as well and gave his opinions on why the Phillies weren’t successful last year:
“I think a lot of guys weren’t on the same page, man. Usually the Phillie way (is) playing hard, running balls out, taking the extra base. We weren’t doing those little things last year, and I want to make sure that everybody’s on the same page to do those little things to win baseball games because we had that just a short period of time ago.”
Finally, in case you missed it, Ruben Amaro recently told reporters that he reached out to Ryan Howard and apologized for saying that the Phillies may be better off without the first baseman.
