The opening series versus the Boston Red Sox ended about as well as we all expected it to. Losing 6-2 on a cold, blistery night, the Phillies seemed to return to form right before our eyes.
David Buchanan got the start, but only made it to the 3rd inning, giving up six runs on two outs. The bullpen showed up for a long session shutting down the Red Sox offense, only giving up three hits the rest of the night. This could be a recurring theme for the Phillies all year. The bullpen showed Dustin McGowan in uniform, followed by Justin De Fratus, Luis Garcia, and Jake Diekman.
The highlight of the Phillies offense also came in the 3rd inning, scoring two runs. One was a gimme on a wild pitch from Red Sox pitcher Justin Masterson, scoring Freddy Galvis from third. Our own Chase Utley scored the second run on an outfield liner, bringing in Ben Revere from second base.
The rest of the night was plagued by annoying rain/mist and errors by the defense, tallying three total for the game.
The Phillies welcome the Washington Nationals tomorrow at 7:05pm.
