The Phillies find themselves a game above .500 after taking the second game of the series against the Washington Nationals tonight.
Cole Hamels returned to form, only giving up one homer to Wilson Ramos in the 4th inning, and going seven innings with two hits and one run, striking out five. Jeanmar Gomez gave up the second run in the top of the 8th on a Clint Robinson single, driving in Danny Espinosa from third.
The Phillies fought back and tied the game in bottom of the 8th inning after a double by Ryan Howard which scored Chase Utley, and a single by Carlos Ruiz, bringing in pinch-runner Cesar Hernandez from second.
Jonathan Papelbon came into the top of the 9th inning to keep the game going into extra innings and some free baseball after giving up only one hit on four batters.
It all came down to the bottom of the 10th inning where Carlos Ruiz was able to tag up on an outfield fly by Grady Sizemore, getting into scoring position for Obdubel Herrera’s first major league hit down the right field line, scoring the walk-off run easily from second.
One other major highlight from the night came from left field, where Ben Revere showed off his throwing arm, saving the game in the top of the 10th inning and throwing out Michael Taylor on a hard hit ball, saving the run from scoring.
The Phillies look for the sweep tomorrow versus the Nationals at 1:35pm.
